Driver Dies in Modesto Train Accident near Highway 132

 
MODESTO, CA (March 12, 2021) – A man was killed Tuesday afternoon in a train accident near Highway 132 and Santa Fe Avenue.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident happened a little before 3:30 p.m. on March 9. The man was driving an SUV when he stopped in the middle of railroad tracks.
 
Apparently, the railroad crossing arms had started to come down as a train approached, but the driver continued onto the tracks. The train then struck the SUV, ejecting the driver.
 
Responding paramedics rushed the man to a hospital, where the victim later died.
 
Authorities said the man was not wearing a seatbelt. His name has not yet been released, but he has been identified as a 60-year-old Empire resident.
 
This fatal accident is still under investigation.
