UPDATED POST: Daniel Duarte Killed in Rollover Crash on Highway 1 near Jalama Road [Lompoc, CA]
LOMPOC, CA (November 2, 2021) — A Santa Barbara man died in a rollover crash on Highway 1 at around 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 31.
According to Santa Barbara County Fire Department Capt. Daniel Bertucelli, the crash happened on Highway 1 just north of Jalama Road.
CHP said that the 2005 Chevy Silverado moved southbound at an unknown speed. Then it left the roadway and crashed with a guardrail.
The 37-year-old male driver then turned the vehicle to the left. After that, it and crossed both the northbound and southbound lanes.
He then turned sharply to the right, which caused the car to cross both lanes again and leave the roadway, where it crashed into a tree.
The car ended up 25-30 feet off the highway. Heavy extrication pulled the driver from the car, Bertucelli said.
Firefighters rushed the driver to Lompoc Valley Medical Center, where he later died. His identity was not immediately available.
Officials continue to investigate the cause of the incident.
