78-Year-Old Man Dies after Pickup Truck Rolls Over on 15 Freeway in Barstow

 
BARSTOW, CA (January 27, 2023) – A man died in a rollover accident on 15 Freeway in Barstow Monday afternoon on January 23.
 
The accident happened around 2:47 p.m., just south of Harvard Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, the 78-year-old man was driving a 2000 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck with a 73-year-old female passenger. The couple both reside in Santa Ana.
 
The man was heading southbound on the freeway at an unknown rate of speed when he allowed his pickup truck to veer to the right. The vehicle then crossed over the shoulder and traveled into the open desert, where it began rolling over and came to rest.
 
As the pickup truck rolled, the man was ejected from the vehicle. He was not wearing his seat belt.
 
First responders provided medical aid, but the man died at the scene.
 
The passenger was injured and transported to Loma Linda University Medical Center in an unknown condition.
 
Alcohol or drugs did not play a role in the crash, which remains under investigation. The CHP Barstow Area Office asked anyone with further information about the crash to call them at 760-255-5900.
