Crash on Highway 111 in Palm Springs Leaves Man Dead and Two Children Injured, DUI Hit-and-Run Suspect Arrested

 
PALM SPRINGS, CA (November 20, 2022) – A man died and police arrested Richard Mann after a DUI hit-and-run crash in Palm Springs on Friday evening.
 
The fatal crash happened around 7:00 p.m. on Highway 111, just south of Overture Drive. According to the California Highway Patrol, the 39-year-old suspect from Beaumont was driving a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado and made an unsafe turning movement. He then collided into the rear of a 2006 GMC Sierra that was parked on the right shoulder and was out of gas.
 
The impact caused the Silverado to overturn and land on its wheels in the dirt shoulder. The GMC came to rest as well. Both vehicles sustained major damage.
 
The GMC was occupied by a 10-year-old boy, a 12-year-old girl and a 45-year-old man. The man died at the scene. The boy suffered major injuries and was airlifted to Loma Linda University Medical Center. The girl suffered moderate injuries and was taken to Desert Regional Medical Center.
 
Mann fled the scene after the crash. Police later located him at his residence and arrested him on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, vehicular manslaughter, and hit-and-run.
