Man Killed, Pedro Macias Jr. Injured in Head-On Accident on Highway 99 [Tehama County, CA]

Red Bluff Man Dies in Head-On Crash on Highway 99 near South Avenue, Pedro Macias Jr. Suffers Moderate Injuries

 
TEHAMA COUNTY, CA (September 13, 2021) – A man was killed while Pedro Macias Jr. sustained injuries in a head-on accident on Highway 99 early Thursday morning.
 
The fatal accident happened around 12:18 a.m. on September 9, just south of South Avenue. CHP officials said Macias, a 60-year-old Chico man, was driving his tanker truck southbound on the highway. At the same time, the 28-year-old man from Red Bluff was driving the wrong way in the southbound lane.
 
The wrong-way driver then collided into Macias’ vehicle, causing him fatal injuries. He died at the scene.
 
Meanwhile, Macias suffered moderate injuries. Paramedics took him to Enloe Medical Center for treatment.
 
After the crash, the wrong-way SUV came to rest on its wheels facing north and blocking the northbound lane. Macias’ truck was facing the south direction and was blocking the second south lane.
 
It is unknown if drugs or alcohol was a factor. The California Highway Patrol is still investigating the accident.
