Man Fatally Struck in Pedestrian Accident on 5 Freeway near La Jolla Parkway

 
SAN DIEGO, CA (January 10, 2022) — A man suffered fatal injuries in a pedestrian crash on 5 Freeway on Thursday, January 6.
 
According to California Highway Patrol, shortly before 6:00 a.m., a man reportedly walked within the traffic lanes of northbound 5 Freeway just south of La Jolla Parkway. Then a black Mazda SUV hit him.
 
An unknown number of other vehicles hit the man following the first impact.
 
The man suffered fatal injuries which prompted the closure of multiple lanes. Officials reopened all lanes just after 10:00 a.m.
 
Investigators do not know if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash. They urge witnesses to call CHP at 858-293-6000.
