Pedestrian Trying to Cross South Bonnyview Road in Redding Fatally Struck by Pickup Truck

 
REDDING, CA (February 14, 2022) – A 64-year-old man was killed in a pedestrian accident on South Bonnyview Road in Redding on Friday morning.
 
The accident happened around 6:45 a.m. on February 11, at the 5 Freeway overpass east of Bechelli Lane. According to the Redding Police Department, the male pedestrian who was wearing dark clothing was crossing the street outside of a marked crosswalk when an eastbound 2500 GMC pickup truck struck him.
 
When officers arrived, they found the man lying in the roadway with major injuries. Paramedics rushed him to the hospital, where he later died.
 
Officers said the driver, a 68-year-old man from Redding, drove into the left turn lane and suddenly saw the man directly in front of his vehicle. He stopped his pickup but was unable to stop before striking the victim.
 
At this time, the identity of the pedestrian was not immediately available. Further investigation is underway.
