Pedestrian Dies after Struck by Car’s Side-View Mirror and Run Over by Another Vehicle on Highway 99 in Bakersfield

 
BAKERSFIELD, CA (August 2, 2022) – A man was killed in a pedestrian accident on Highway 99 in Bakersfield on Saturday, July 30.
 
The fatal accident happened around 9:25 p.m. just south of Cecil Avenue. According to the California Highway Patrol, the man was trying to cross the northbound lanes of the highway. A 2012 Audi was traveling at approximately 70 mph when its side-view mirror struck the pedestrian.
 
The impact knocked the pedestrian down on the roadway, where he was run over by a 2012 Chevrolet.
 
First responders pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene.
 
Alcohol and drugs do not appear to be factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.
