Man Pushing Shopping Cart Dies in Pedestrian Crash on Highway 273 in Redding

 
REDDING, CA (August 25, 2022) — A man died in a pedestrian accident on Highway 273 near Wyndham Lane on Tuesday.
 
According to the Redding Police Department, the fatal pedestrian crash happened around 11:32 p.m. For unknown reasons, a man wearing dark clothing was pushing a shopping cart in the middle of the southbound highway.
 
Subsequently, a 64-year-old man driving a southbound 2008 Buick sedan struck the pedestrian on the road.
 
As a result of the impact, the victim was dragged underneath the vehicle.
 
Responding authorities arrived soon after and firefighter-paramedics had to extricate the victim from underneath the car. However, despite rescue efforts, the man, believed to be homeless, died from his injuries.
 
Following the accident, police evaluated the driver for DUI, but eventually ruled it out as a possible factor. If anyone has more information on this deadly accident, please contact the Redding Police.
