Deadly Pedestrian Accident on Highway 101 in Santa Barbara County
SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, CA (February 2, 2021) – A man died in a pedestrian accident Tuesday, January 19 on Highway 101 in Santa Barbara County.
The accident happened shortly before 6:00 p.m. between the Milpas Street off-ramp and on-ramp.
According to an initial report by the CHP, an adult male pedestrian was struck by one or more vehicles along the southbound lanes of the highway.
As a result, the man suffered massive injuries and died at the scene.
Personnel from the Santa Barbara County Coroner’s Bureau were dispatched to the scene to pick up the victim’s remains. They did not release his identity pending family notification.
Officers shut down the southbound freeway lanes for a time while they investigated. Caltrans advised motorists to expect major delays, and use Cabrillo Boulevard as a detour.
