Deadly Pedestrian Accident on 580 Freeway in Richmond

 
RICHMOND, CA (July 3, 2021) – A man was killed in a pedestrian accident on 580 Freeway in Richmond Wednesday morning.

The accident happened around 7:27 a.m. on June 30, at the Regatta Boulevard off-ramp. According to the California Highway Patrol, the man was found lying on the right side of the freeway with significant injuries.
 
Richmond firefighter paramedics attempted saving the man, but he died at the scene. The identity of the man was not immediately available.
 
Police closed down the off ramp from the freeway and alerted the Contra Costa County Coroner. Additionally, they issued a SigAlert around 7:46 a.m. due to the closure of the off ramp.
 
At this time, officers did not indicate if the involved driver remained on scene or fled after the crash.
 
An investigation is underway.
