Santa Barbara Man Dead after Moped Accident on North Hope Avenue near Monte Vista School

SANTA BARBARA, CA (October 25, 2021) – A Santa Barbara resident was killed following a moped accident on North Hope Avenue, early Sunday morning.
 
According to the Santa Barbara Police Department, the incident happened on October 23, shortly before midnight. Two friends riding their mopeds reportedly collided in the 900 block of North Hope Avenue, just north of Monte Vista School.
 
The impact of the crash ejected both of the riders. Appearing uninjured, the riders remounted their mopeds and headed to another friend’s house.
 
The next day, at about 2:00 a.m., one of the riders experienced chest pains and went home. Emergency personnel was dispatched to his home on Broadmoor Plaza. As per reports, they found the 53-year-old man collapsed in a bathroom.
 
A short time later, responders pronounced the man dead. Authorities withheld the identity of the rider, pending notification of next of kin.
 
Santa Barbara police continue to investigate the fatal accident.
