Fatal Head-On Crash on Highway 20 at West Butte Road, Manuel Hernandez Arrested

 
SUTTER COUNTY, CA (April 29, 2021) – A man died and Manuel Rivas Hernandez was arrested in a DUI head-on crash in Sutter County Monday afternoon, April 26.
 
The crash happened around 4:10 p.m. on Highway 20 near West Butte Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, the 47-year-old man from Gold Run was driving a Ford Escape westbound when he attempted to pass other vehicles at a high rate of speed.
 
Hernandez, a 37-year-old Live Oak resident, was driving a Toyota Tacoma eastbound at 55 miles per hour when he collided head-on with the Ford.
 
As a result, the unidentified driver of the Ford died at the scene.
 
Hernandez suffered major injuries, including a broken left leg and head trauma. His passenger also suffered a laceration to the head and body pains.
 
A Subaru Forester that was originally passed by the Ford ended up colliding with vehicle debris after the collision. Neither the driver nor the passenger sustained injuries.
 
Drugs or alcohol use were determined to be a factor in the collision, resulting in Hernandez’s arrest. An investigation is ongoing.
