Highland Hit-and-Run Crash Leaves 1 Dead, Suspected Driver Kyle Cornwell Arrested

 
HIGHLAND, CA (July 4, 2022) – A man died and police arrested Kyle Michael Cornwell VI after a hit-and-run crash in Highland late Saturday evening on July 2.
 
The fatal crash happened just after 10:00 p.m. on Baseline Avenue near McKinley Avenue. According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, the 24-year-old suspect from Highland was driving a white Dodge Ram when he struck the male pedestrian.
 
After striking the victim, Cornwell fled the scene without rendering aid.
 
The pedestrian, a 56-year-old man, died at the scene.
 
Deputies found evidence at the scene that helped them identify the Dodge. When they went to the home associated with the owner of the Dodge, they found Cornwell and arrested him.
 
Deputies booked Cornwell on suspicion of a hit-and-run causing death. Cornwell is expected to appear in San Bernardino Superior Court on Wednesday. He is being held on $50,000 bail.
