Car Hits and Kills Pedestrian on Highway 62 in Joshua Tree

 
JOSHUA TREE, CA (April 19, 2023) – A man was killed in a pedestrian accident on Highway 62 in Joshua Tree early Sunday morning on April 16.
 
The fatal accident happened around 5:00 a.m. just west of Hillview Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, the man was walking in the eastbound right lane on the highway when a car driving in the same lane struck him.
 
As a result, the man suffered significant injuries and died at the hospital. He was 30 years from Yucca Valley.
 
The driver of the car, 69-year-old Kevin Amstutz of Yucca Valley, stayed at the scene and cooperated with officers.
 
CHP is investigating the fatal crash, but said alcohol and/or drugs did not appear to have been a factor.
