Police Arrest DUI Driver after Fatally Striking Striking Pedestrian in Visalia

 
VISALIA, CA (June 6, 2023) – Police arrested James Martinez for DUI after fatally striking a pedestrian in Visalia Sunday evening on June 4.
 
The fatal crash happened around 8:30 p.m. on Highway 198 near Court Street. According to the California Highway Patrol, they received reports of a man stumbling in the roadway.
 
Before authorities arrived, Martinez, an Exeter resident, struck the man who was lying in the roadway.
 
The male pedestrian suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.
 
CHP officials said Martinez was not found to be at fault for the crash, but was determined to be under in the influence of alcohol. They arrested him for DUI.
 
An investigation into this fatality is ongoing.
