Early Morning Hit-and-Run on Highway 99 in Bakersfield Kills Pedestrian

 
BAKERSFIELD, CA (March 18, 2021) – A man died early Monday morning in a hit-and-run accident on Highway 99 in Bakersfield.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident happened around 1:08 a.m. on northbound lanes of the highway at Ming Avenue. Officers initially responded to a suspicious circumstance call involving an unresponsive man lying in the center median.
 
When officers arrived, they learned that a traffic crash involving a vehicle and pedestrian happened just north of Stockdale Highway.
 
The male pedestrian was reportedly walking in an unknown direction when a vehicle traveling northbound on Highway 99 struck him. The involved driver did not stop to render aid.
 
First responders attempted saving the pedestrian, but he died at the scene. The victim’s identity was not immediately available.
 
No lanes were closed and traffic was not affected during the investigation.
 
CHP officers are still searching for the hit-and-run driver.
