Driver Dies in Livermore High-Speed Car Accident on 580 Freeway

LIVERMORE, CA (February 2, 2021) – A 54-year-old man died Thursday afternoon after a high-speed car accident on 580 Freeway near Isabel Avenue off-ramp.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the car accident happened just after 2:20 p.m. Officers responded to the westbound lanes of the freeway.

When they arrived, they found a 2001 Pontiac that had left the roadway on the right-hand side. The car traveled at least 50 feet across an embankment and through a chain-link fence before striking a tree.

The Pontiac’s driver was ejected during the crash. He died at the scene.

CHP believes the driver was driving too fast, potentially at a speed too high for the wet road, and took an unsafe turn.

The full circumstances of this high-speed car accident remain under investigation. Anyone with information may call the CHP’s Dublin office at 925-828-0466.

We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the victim.
