Passenger Dies in Fiery Accident on Highway 41 in Fresno, Driver in Critical Condition

 
FRESNO, CA (August 22, 2021) – A man was killed in a fiery accident on Highway 41 in south Fresno on Saturday afternoon.
 
The accident happened just before 2:00 p.m. on August 21, at the O Street off-ramp. According to the California Highway Patrol, a car collided into a center median for unknown reasons, then veered towards the off-ramp. It then struck a tree and burst into flames.
 
A CHP officer arrived in minutes and managed to pull out an unconscious woman from the driver’s seat just as flames erupted. Emergency personnel then pulled out the man from the passenger’s seat.
 
Ambulance took both patients to Community Regional Medical Center, where the passenger was pronounced dead. He was not yet identified.
 
The driver remains in critical condition.
 
Authorities did not rule out alcohol and drugs as factors in this fatal crash. An investigation is ongoing.
