Man Dies in San Francisco Dirt Bike Accident on 80 Freeway

 
SAN FRANCISCO, CA (January 19, 2021) — A 20-year-old man died Sunday in a dirt bike accident on 80 Freeway near Treasure Island Road.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the dirt bike accident happened around 5:05 p.m.
 
Witnesses saw about 15 bikes traveling on the Bay Bridge split from their main group. Subsequently, the cyclists turned around and traveled in the wrong direction after seeing CHP officers monitor for sideshow activity.
 
Per reports, several cyclists exited Sterling Street and 4th Street before reentering the bridge in the wrong direction again.
 
Among the group, a 20-year-old reportedly crashed his dirt bike near the bridge’s incline. Appearing to be okay, the cyclist hopped onto another dirt bike and rode westbound on the bridge.
 
To evade law enforcement, the riders tried jumping a median wall, which ejected the passenger onto the Bay Bridge. There, an oncoming truck fatally struck him.
 
Officials closed two eastbound lanes of the Bay Bridge, which caused drastic delays for commuters.
 
At this time, detectives have yet to determine the ultimate cause of the dirt bike accident on 80 Freeway. However, they encourage witnesses to help with the investigation if possible.
