Man Dies in T-Bone Crash with Police Car on Watt Avenue in Antelope

 
ANTELOPE, CA (December 23, 2022) — A 19-year-old man died in a broadside accident with a police car on Watt Avenue and Elverta Road Thursday.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the two-vehicle crash happened around 2:00 a.m. For unknown reasons, a 19-year-old Antelope man driving a westbound Mazda T-boned a deputy vehicle heading northbound on Watt Avenue. Since the man was not wearing a seatbelt, he was ejected from his Mazda and suffered fatal injuries.
 
Medical staff confirmed him dead at a nearby hospital. His three passengers, described as a 20-year-old man from Sacramento, a 20-year-old man from Antelope and a 21-year-old Antelope woman suffered minor to major injuries. Authorities confirmed that neither of the occupants had their seatbelt on.
 
As for the 27-year-old Sacramento County deputy, he complained of pain and reported only minor injuries.
 
It’s unclear what led to the crash. However, authorities have ruled out impairment as a possible explanation. At this time, the Sacramento County coroner’s office has yet to release the victim’s name pending notification of next of kin.
