Man Dead after Big Rig Crash on Highway 99 near Merced Avenue

BAKERSFIELD, CA (March 23, 2022) — A man died following a big rig accident on Highway 99 at about 4:45 a.m. on Tuesday, March 22.
 
According to California Highway Patrol officials, a Volvo 670 semi-trailer combination moved south on Highway 99, just north of Merced Avenue.
 
The big rig was unable to stop in time and collided into the back of a Chrysler Town and Country van. It pushed the van off the roadway and onto the right shoulder.
 
The impact ejected the driver of the van. He suffered fatal injuries. The driver of the big rig was not hurt.
 
At this time, alcohol and drugs do not appear to have contributed to the crash.
 
Officials continue to investigate the crash.
