Bicyclist Dies after Struck by Pickup Truck on Highway 140 in Merced County

 
MERCED COUNTY, CA (October 19, 2021) – A man died in a bicycle accident on Highway 140 in Merced County early Sunday morning.
 
The accident happened around 4:20 a.m. on October 17, just east of Lincoln Boulevard. According to the California Highway Patrol, the man was riding his bicycle eastbound on the highway when the front of a 1997 GMC Sierra, also traveling east in the eastbound lane, collided with the rear of the bicycle.
 
The driver of the GMC, identified as Shane Desalles Sr., did not see the bicyclist, authorities said. He stayed on scene and cooperated with officers.
 
Paramedics rushed the bicyclist to Merced Medical Center in Merced, where he succumbed to his injuries.
 
Officers said neither drugs nor alcohol appear to be a factor in the crash. Further investigation is underway.
