Bicyclist Dies after Struck by Vehicle on Highway 108 in Tuolumne County

 
TUOLUMNE COUNTY, CA (November 27, 2022) – A man died in a bicycle accident on Highway 108 in Tuolumne County Friday morning on November 25.
 
The accident happened around 10:40 a.m. just west of Tulloch Dam Road. According to the CHP, the 67-year-old victim from Modesto was riding his bicycle on the south eastbound shoulder of the highway. Approaching him was 22-year-old Leanda Lopez of Oakdale, driving a 2005 Subaru at approximately 55 to 60 mph.
 
The man turned left from the shoulder directly into the path of the Subaru. Lopez swerved to the right to avoid the collision, while the bicyclist swerved back to the right, and the two collided.
 
The bicyclist was thrown on the ground after the impact. First responders attempted saving him, but he died at the scene. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
 
Drugs and alcohol are not suspected to be factors. The California Highway Patrol is still investigating the accident.
