Man Killed in Bicycle Accident on 580 Freeway near MacArthur Boulevard [Oakland, CA]

Bicyclist Dies after Struck by Two Vehicles on 580 Freeway in Oakland

 
OAKLAND, CA (July 31, 2021) – A man died in a bicycle accident on 580 Freeway in Oakland late Friday evening.
 
The accident happened around 10:00 p.m. on July 30, along the eastbound lanes of the freeway, just west of MacArthur Boulevard. According to the CHP, the man was riding his bicycle westbound in the eastbound lanes of the freeway when a vehicle struck him. While he was down on the roadway, a second car also hit him.
 
Responding officers found the man lying in the roadway with severe injuries. Paramedics performed life-saving aid, but the bicyclist died at the scene.
 
The Alameda County Coroner’s Office will release the man’s identity once it has been confirmed and his next of kin is notified.
 
According to witnesses, the man was traveling in complete darkness, while wearing dark clothing.
 
Crews closed the eastbound 580 Freeway until about 11:40 p.m. while they cleared the wreckage.
