DUI Head-On Crash on Santa Fe Drive Leaves 1 Driver Injured

 
MERCED, CA (July 28, 2022) – A man was injured in a DUI head-on accident on Santa Fe Drive in Merced on Tuesday night, July 26.
 
The accident happened just after 6:00 p.m. at Olive Avenue. According to the California Highway Patrol, a Ford Mustang was traveling south on Santa Fe Drive when it drove into the path of a minivan that was heading the opposite direction.
 
The vehicles then collided head-on. The van overturned from the impact and immediately caught fire.
 
A Good Samaritan who was passing by saw the crash and was able to pull the driver out of the fiery vehicle. That Good Samaritan also explained that the Mustang driver was trying to run away from the scene by foot.
 
Responding officers were able to detain the driver quickly at the scene, where he was evaluated and found to be driving under the influence.
 
The minivan driver suffered major injuries but is expected to live.
 
Police arrested the Mustang driver for DUI and felony hit-and-run. Further investigation is underway.
