Merced Accident Involving Pedestrian and Train near G Street and West 16th Street

 
MERCED, CA (April 6, 2021) – A man was fatally struck by a train near G Street and 16th Street Thursday night in Merced.
 
The police said they received reports of a pedestrian hit by a train on the Union Pacific Railroad tracks past 9:00 p.m. The officers and other emergency responders arrived at G Street and West 16th Street at about 9:21 p.m.
 
What they found at the scene was an unidentified male pedestrian struck by a train. Based on initial reports, the man was walking along the tracks when the incident happened. He passed away at the scene.
 
Meanwhile, no information was available on whether anyone on the train sustained any injuries.
 
At this time, it remains to be determined whether drugs or alcohol was a factor in the fatal incident. The reason why the pedestrian was walking along the tracks is also under investigation.
