Man Struck, Killed by Big Rig on Highway 99 in Chowchilla

 
CHOWCHILLA, CA (June 9, 2022) — A man hit by a semi-truck on Highway 99 near Avenue 21 1/2 died on Wednesday morning.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal pedestrian accident took place around 2:40 a.m. Upon responding, officers found an adult male on the west shoulder of the highway who appeared to have been hit by a semi-truck in the No. 2 southbound lanes.
 
For unknown reasons, the pedestrian might have run into the path of the oncoming semi, despite the driver’s inability to avoid the imminent crash.
 
Due to the nature of the crash, the victim suffered severe injuries and died at the scene. As for the big rig driver, the individual stayed at the scene and did not appear drunk by alcohol or drugs.
 
Before the accident, authorities received multiple reports of a pedestrian running in and out of traffic around 2:00 a.m. At this time, an investigation into this deadly crash should confirm the cause.
