Driver Fatally Struck by Vehicle after Rollover Crash on 405 Freeway in Long Beach

 
LONG BEACH, CA (July 25, 2021) – A man was hit and killed after a rollover accident on 405 Freeway in Long Beach Tuesday, July 20.
 
The accident happened around 8:30 p.m. along the southbound lanes of the freeway near the Lakewood Boulevard exit. According to California Highway Patrol, the man was driving a 1996 Chevrolet Cavalier when he slammed into the center divider for unknown reasons. The car then overturned in the carpool lane and caught fire.
 
The man was able to get out from the wreckage. He then ran across the freeway and over a raised median when a passing vehicle struck him. He died at the scene.
 
Authorities have not yet released the victim’s identity.
 
CHP officials issued a SigAlert in the area for an unknown duration while they investigated the crash.
