LONG BEACH, CA (January 20, 2022) — A man was hit and killed by a garbage truck on Del Rey Court near Anaheim Street on Tuesday afternoon.
 
According to Long Beach police officers, the fatal incident happened around 1:05 p.m. Under unclear circumstances, a 62-year-old Norwalk resident operating a garbage truck ran over a man who was lying down in the alleyway as the driver reversed.
 
Due to the nature of the crash, the victim, described as a homeless man, died at the scene. His name is being withheld pending notification of his family members.
 
Shortly after, police arrived and interviewed the driver who they say showed no signs of impairment, distracted driving or speeding prior to the incident.
