Man Killed in Single-Car Accident at Mugu Rock in Malibu

 
MALIBU, CA (June 16, 2022) — A man died in a solo-car crash at Mugu Rock and Highway 1 on Tuesday evening.
 
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal single-car accident happened around 6:07 p.m. For unknown reasons, a 51-year-old man driving a 2016 Range Rover southbound on the highway failed to negotiate a curve in the road.
 
Subsequently, the Range Rover veered off the highway and crashed into Mugu Rock. After that, launching several feet into the air and rolling down the mountainside. Upon landing on its wheels, the Range Rover burst into flames, and the sole occupant of the vehicle died in the crash.
 
Soon after, CHP officers, California State Parks and the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the scene to pronounce the victim dead.
 
At this time, the Ventura County medical examiner’s office has withheld the victim’s name due to pending notification of next of kin. If anyone has more information on this accident as authorities identify the cause, please call the CHP office.
