Man Killed in Encinitas Pedestrian Crash on Piraeus Street

 
ENCINITAS, CA (May 10, 2022) — A man died in a pedestrian accident on Piraeus Street near Normandy Road on Sunday afternoon.
 
According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, the fatal pedestrian accident happened around 4:00 p.m. Under unclear circumstances, a vehicle heading northbound struck a man crossing the road in an attempt to retrieve flowers on Mother’s Day.
 
It appears the man had parked a vehicle in the southbound bicycle lane before he began crossing the street.
 
Soon after, emergency personnel reached the scene and brought the victim to Scripps La Jolla Hospital where he died shortly after.
 
The driver of the car reported no injuries in the incident.
 
At this time, officers have ruled out DUI as a possible factor in the accident. Although, if anyone has more information on this crash, please contact the California Highway Patrol.
