Man Killed in Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Crash on Florida Avenue in Hemet

 
HEMET, CA (June 3, 2022) — A man died in a hit-and-run pedestrian accident on Florida Avenue near San Jacinto Street on Wednesday night.
 
According to the Hemet Police Department, the deadly hit-and-run occurred around 9:25 p.m. As the victim – described as a man in his 40s – began crossing the eastbound lanes of Florida Avenue, he made it safely to the midway point of the road.
 
However, while crossing the westbound lanes, a driver hit him with their car. He briefly stopped before fleeing the scene.
 
Responding authorities found the man with major injuries. However, despite attempts to save him, they pronounced him dead shortly after.
 
In the investigation, authorities learned that the accident occurred outside of a marked crosswalk and while oncoming traffic had a green light. In addition, they confirmed DUI played a factor with the pedestrian.
 
At this time, officers have not proved if more than one driver ran over the fatal victim. However, they do believe the first car might have been a dark-colored Dodge that drove north on San Jacinto Street.
