1 Killed After Car Crashes on Highway 4 in Pittsburg

PITTSBURG, CA (January 24, 2025) — A man died, and a woman suffered serious wounds after a car crashed onto the BART tracks near Highway 4 and Bailey Road.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the single-car crash happened around 3:45 a.m. Thursday. For an unknown reason, a BMW driver speeding on Highway 4 crashed through a chain link fence and landed on the BART tracks. As a result, the accident significantly damaged the third rail and infrastructure.

At some point during the accident, a male occupant of the BMW was ejected from the car. He and a female passenger, both of whom did not wear their seatbelts, suffered serious injuries. Tragically, the man passed away shortly after the crash, but the woman survived, later receiving hospital care.

After the accident, BART issued a service advisory communicating that they suspended services between North Concord-Martinez and Antioch. By 7:40 a.m., all lanes of Highway 4 were reopened.

Authorities have not determined the leading factors of the crash, including if DUI played a part. Those with information can call the CHP.
