Big Rig Accident on Rice Avenue in Oxnard Leaves 1 in Critical Condition

 
OXNARD, CA (August 19, 2021) – A man suffered critical injuries after a big rig accident at Rice Avenue and Camino Del Sol in Oxnard Wednesday morning.
 
The accident happened around 9:45 a.m. on August 18. According to Oxnard Police Department and Ventura County Fire Department reports, the big rig, driven by a 62-year-old Ventura man, was heading south on Rice Avenue and was making a left turn onto Camino Del Sol. At the same time, a pickup truck was traveling northbound on Rice Avenue.
 
For unknown reasons, the pickup broadsided the big rig as the semi traveled through the intersection. The impact left the driver of the pickup wedged under the trailer of the semi.
 
The pickup driver, described as a 68-year-old Oxnard man, was extricated from the wreckage and taken by ambulance to Ventura County Medical Center in critical condition.
 
It is unknown if the big rig driver sustained any injuries.
 
An investigation is ongoing to determine the factors involved in the accident.
