33-Year-Old Man Dies after Struck by Hit-and-Run Driver in Santa Rosa

 
SANTA ROSA, CA (August 13, 2024) – Mahlon Weaver was hit and killed by a car in Santa Rosa on August 1.
 
The fatal crash happened on Hearn Avenue, just near the SMART tracks. According to the Santa Rosa Police Department, 19-year-old Alejandra Vasquez of Santa Rosa struck Weaver in the area. She stopped for about 90 seconds but eventually drove away westbound on Hearn Avenue.
 
Weaver, a 33-year-old Santa Rosa resident, was in critical condition. He died at the hospital 12 days later.
 
Video footage identified the car, which was registered to a home in the 1900 block of Blue Sky Lane in Santa Rosa. It was parked in the garage.
 
Police arrested the teen suspect for felony hit-and-run causing injury.

The father of the suspected driver, 49-year-old Rafael Vasquez, reportedly hide the vehicle after the crash. Police also arrested him on the same day for allegedly protecting his daughter. They booked him into the Sonoma County Jail.

An investigation into this fatality is ongoing.
