Pedestrian Dies after Struck by Hit-and-Run Driver on Highway 99 in Merced

 
MERCED, CA (July 27, 2021)Lydia Arroyo died in a hit-and-run crash in Merced Thursday morning, July 22.
 
The fatal crash happened around 5:45 a.m. on Highway 99 near 16th Street. According to the CHP, Arroyo was walking in the roadway outside of a marked crosswalk when a vehicle traveling north on the off-ramp struck her.
 
A passing motorist found Arroyo lying in the roadway and called 911. Paramedics arrived soon after and flown her to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto with major injuries. Despite life-saving efforts, Arroyo did not survive and was declared dead.
 
The victim was a 23-year-old Merced resident, according to the Merced County Sheriff Coroner’s Office.
 
Meanwhile, the involved driver fled the scene and remains at large.
