Teens Kassandra Sepulveda and Luis Esparza Die in Byron DUI Pedestrian Crash
BYRON, CA (September 7, 2021) — Two pedestrians died in a DUI pedestrian accident on Byron Highway near Clifton Court Road Saturday night.
The Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Coroner’s Office identified them as 18-year-old Kassandra Sepulveda of Bay Point and 16-year-old Luis Esparza of Oakley.
The suspect was identified by the California Highway Patrol as 18-year-old Colby Sharver of Knightsen.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fatal pedestrian crash happened around 11:15 p.m. After that, Sharver hit Sepulveda and Esparza with a 2002 Subaru Impreza as they walked along the narrow shoulder in the 8300 block of the two-lane Byron Highway. Per reports, the pair were walking along the road while attending a large gathering.
Sharver is being held on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence. At this time, he is being held at the Martinez Detention Facility.
