Pedestrian Fatally Struck by Hit-and-Run Driver at Polk and Hayes Streets, Virgil Woods Arrested

 
SAN FRANCISCO, CA (May 23, 2021)Lovisa Svallingson was killed in a pedestrian hit-and-run in San Francisco Tuesday evening, May 18.
 
The incident happened around 7:00 p.m. at Polk and Hayes streets. Police said 57-year-old Virgil Woods was driving a Chevrolet Avalanche when he collided with an Audi A6. The impact caused the Avalanche to strike the 29-year-old victim and her partner who were crossing at the intersection.
 
Svallingson suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. Her partner, 30-year old Danny Ramos, sustained critical injuries.
 
After the crash, Woods fled the scene on foot. He reportedly discarded his clothing in an effort to conceal his identity and later filed a false police report stating that his Avalanche had been stolen.
 
San Francisco police later arrested Woods and booked him at San Francisco County Jail on two charges of vehicular manslaughter, two counts of felony hit and run, reckless driving and failing to stop for a red traffic signal.
 
Police also found Woods with several glass smoking pipes at the time of his arrest, for which he faces an additional charge of possession of narcotics paraphernalia.
