Dominic Casarez Detained, Louis Munoz Killed in Porterville Hit-and-Run
PORTERVILLE, CA (September 29, 2021) — Police arrested Dominic Anaya Casarez after crashing head-on into a motorcycle, killing the rider, and running from the scene on Wednesday, September 22.
Police publicly identified the victim – who died after being hit by the drunk driver – as 57-year-old Porterville resident Louis Munoz.
According to reports, the accident happened around 2:30 a.m. on Road 236 near Avenue 112. Munoz rode his 2006 Harley Davidson motorcycle southbound on Road 236, south of Avenue 112.
For unknown reasons, 23-year-old Casarez allowed his northbound 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt to drift into the left lane. As a result, into oncoming traffic. However, Munoz was unable to avoid the Chevrolet and crashed head-on with Casarez.
Munoz was taken to Kaweah Delta Medical Center where he later died. According to family and loved ones, Munoz was the father of five and grandfather of 19.
Following the accident, Casarez reportedly left on foot, but officers arrested him for DUI and hit-and-run. Court records show that Casarez has a prior DUI conviction from August of 2021. Now, Casarez is charged with second-degree murder, gross vehicular manslaughter, and hit-and-run causing death. In addition, driving on a suspended license and driving without an ignition interlock device.
The family is advocating against drinking and driving and asking everyone to find a designated driver.
