Lisa Trevino, Michael Maul and Heidi Maul Killed in Head-On Accident on Highway 132 [Modesto, CA]

Unsafe Passing on Highway 132 in Modesto Causes Head-On Crash Killing 3 People

 
MODESTO, CA (August 30, 2021) – Lisa Trevino, Michael Maul and Heidi Lalani Maul died in a head-on accident on Highway 132 Saturday evening.
 
The accident happened around 9:10 p.m. on August 28, about eight miles west of Modesto. CHP officials said 49-year-old Aurelia Amezcua of San Jose was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Suburban westbound on the highway, approaching the San Joaquin River bridge at about 65 mph.
 
Attempting to pass the big rig, Amezcua accelerated and crossed the center lines into the eastbound lane. She then collided head-on into a 2011 Nissan Versa being driven by Trevino, a 40-year-old Ceres resident. Maul, a 43-year-old Salida resident, was a front seat passenger in the Nissan. Heidi, Maul’s wife, was seating at the back seat.
 
As a result of the crash, Trevino, Maul and Heidi all died at the scene.
 
Amezcua had minor injuries. Her passengers, 53-year Maria Magana and 51-year-old Mireya Reyes, both suffered major injuries.
 
Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash, but the investigation is ongoing. The Modesto CHP asked anyone with further information to call them at 209-545-7440.
