Joshua Woods Detained, Laprea Hardister Dead in Palm Springs DUI Crash

 
PALM SPRINGS, CA (April 28, 2021) — Police arrested Joshua Lamar Woods after a fatal DUI accident on Indian Canyon Drive near Garnet Avenue on Monday, April 19.
 
According to the Palm Springs Police Department, 30-year-old Woods of Desert Hot Springs was allegedly behind the wheel of a vehicle. Soon after, Woods struck a steel pole on Indian Canyon Drive near Garnet Avenue about 1:20 a.m.
 
His passenger, identified as 30-year-old Laprea Hardister of Desert Hot Springs, was pronounced dead at the scene.
 
In addition to DUI gross vehicular manslaughter, Woods is charged with DUI causing great bodily injury and DUI with a blood-alcohol content exceeding the legal limit of .08% causing bodily injury.
 
He remains in custody at the Smith Correctional Facility in Banning. In addition, Woods also has a felony conviction in Riverside County for assault on a person causing great bodily injury.
 
At this time, the crash remains under investigation.
