Three-Vehicle Accident on 5 Freeway at Grapevine Road Kills 1 Passenger
FORT TEJON, CA (June 29, 2022) – Khamlounh Thammaaly died in a three-vehicle accident on 5 Freeway in Fort Tejon on Sunday evening, June 26.
The accident happened around 9:47 p.m. along the northbound lanes of the freeway, just south of Grapevine Road. According to the California Highway Patrol, 41-year-old vehicle P. Thammaaly of Modesto was driving a Toyota Tundra with two passengers.
For unknown reasons, the Toyota collided with a Peterbilt truck tractor, driven by 59-year-old John McCord of Tehachapi and an Acura ILX, driven by 27-year-old Jhovanni Hernandez of San Jose.
Khamlounh Thammaaly, a 63-year-old Modesto resident, was a rear passenger in the Toyota. She suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.
Officers said the crash caused the Toyota to veer off the roadway and about 100 feet down an embankment.
At this time, the exact cause of the crash and factors involved remain under investigation.
