Motorcyclist Kenneth Mitchell Loses Leg after Struck by Vehicle while Riding with His Daughter in Nevada County

 
NEVADA COUNTY, CA (December 15, 2021)Kenneth Mitchell and his 9-year-old daughter were injured in a motorcycle accident on Highway 49 on Sunday afternoon.
 
The accident happened around 3:45 p.m. on December 12 near Little Deer Drive. According to the California Highway Patrol, the 29-year-old man from Nevada City was riding the motorcycle with his daughter as a passenger. He attempted to make a U-turn on the highway when a southbound vehicle struck him.
 
As a result of the crash, Mitchell was seriously injured and lost his leg. His daughter suffered a broken ankle.
 
The driver of the vehicle, 40-year-old Melanie Highsmith, was not injured. But the vehicle had front-end damage.
 
It is unknown if speed, drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash. Further investigation is underway.
