Head-On Accident on Harbor Boulevard in Ventura Kills Katelyn Journigan
VENTURA, CA (May 3, 2021) – One person died in a head-on accident on Harbor Boulevard in Ventura Friday evening, April 23.
26-year-old Katelyn M. Journigan was a Ventura resident, according to the Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The accident happened around 10:15 p.m. on Harbor Boulevard at Sanjon Road. According to the Ventura City Police, Journigan had been driving a 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee eastbound on Harbor Boulevard at the time. For reasons still under investigation, she was going the wrong way in the westbound lane at the time of the crash. No one else was in the Jeep.
The Jeep struck a 2020 Kia Optima head on. Journigan died at the scene, officials said.
The female driver of the Kia suffered serious injuries, including major head trauma. As of Monday, she remained in the intensive care unit at Ventura County Medical Center. A passenger in the Kia suffered injuries that were not life-threatening and was released from the hospital.
Both parties in the Kia were wearing seat belts.
Journigan was apparently not wearing a seatbelt, the department’s initial investigation found. Additional information has not been determined pending test results.
We would like to express our deepest condolences to the friends and family of Katelyn Journigan.
