Bicyclist Killed, Juan Ventura Arrested after Hit-an-Run in Chowchilla
CHOWCHILLA, CA (April 27, 2021) – Authorities identified Juan Manuel Ventura as the driver arrested following a hit-and-run crash on Orange Avenue, Friday evening.
According to the Chowchilla Police Department, the incident happened at about 5:00 p.m. Due to unknown circumstances, a vehicle hit a bicyclist near the area of Orange Avenue and 5th Street.
The vehicle reportedly did not stop to render aid and immediately fled the area.
Emergency responders pronounced the bicyclist, described as a man in his 40s, dead at the scene. Authorities did not release the name of the victim.
Less than an hour later, Chowchilla police tracked down the hit-and-run driver. Officers arrested Ventura and booked him into the Madera County jail for homicide.
Investigators believe that Ventura was under the influence of drugs and alcohol when he hit the bicyclist.
