Pedestrian Pushing Shopping Cart Dies after Struck by Car on East Bayshore Road in East Palo Alto

 
EAST PALO ALTO, CA (April 28, 2022) – A car hit and killed a man pushing a shopping cart on East Bayshore Road on Monday morning.
 
The San Mateo County Coroner’s Office identified the pedestrian as 71-year-old Juan Barrera Gomez of Menlo Park.
 
The accident happened around 5:09 a.m. on April 25 at Oakwood Drive. According to East Palo Alto Police Department, Barrera Gomez wearing dark clothing was pushing a shopping cart in the southbound lane of traffic when car traveling in the same direction struck him.
 
Barrera Gomez died at the scene.
 
The driver of the car remained at the scene and cooperated with police.
