Head-On Accident on Ramona Expressway in Lakeview Kills 1 Driver and Injures Another

 
LAKEVIEW, CA (March 19, 2022)Joshua Vasquez-Escamilla died in a head-on accident on Ramona Expressway in Lakeview on Thursday morning.
 
The fatal accident happened around 5:40 a.m. on March 17 just west of Hansen Avenue. CHP officials said Vasquez-Escamilla was driving a 2017 Hyundai Sonata westbound on the expressway. For unknown reasons, he allowed his car to drift across the center median and into opposing traffic lanes.
 
At the same time, a 34-year-old Los Angeles man driving an Isuzu box van approached from the opposite direction on the expressway at 25 mph.
 
The Hyundai smashed head-on into the van, causing major damage on both vehicles.
 
Riverside County Fire Department paramedics responded and pronounced Vasquez-Escamilla dead at the scene. He was a 21-year-old San Jacinto resident.
 
The driver of the van only sustained minor injuries.
 
Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash. The exact cause of the crash is under investigation.
