Joseph Fortunato Ghio Killed in San Diego Car Crash on Lytton Street
SAN DIEGO, CA (December 21, 2021) — A man died in a car accident on Lytton Street at Rosecrans Street near Liberty Station on Saturday, December 4.
39-year-old Ocean Beach resident Joseph Fortunato Ghio died in the accident, according to the county Medical Examiner’s Office. According to his memorial page, Ghio grew up in San Diego.
Ghio was driving east on Lytton Street when he and a driver headed south on Rosecrans Street crashed in the intersection just before 4:00 a.m. Authorities did not clarify which driver had the right of way.
Shortly after, San Diego Police and paramedics responded. According to reports, Ghio was thrown from his vehicle and died before he could be taken to a hospital. At the time, police mistakenly reported the driver who died was a 68-year-old man.
The other driver, a 27-year-old man, suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment.
