74-Year-Old Joseph Calavano Dies while Participating in Fundraiser in Sonoma County

 
SONOMA COUNTY, CA (October 6, 2021)Joseph Calavano died in a motorcycle accident during a fun run event in Sonoma County Saturday morning, October 2.
 
The accident happened around 11:30 a.m. on northbound Highway 1 near Wright Hill Road. Calavano was among hundreds of motorcyclists participating in the Rip City Rider’s Chilly Billy Fun Run, starting from Cotati to the fairgrounds of Petaluma.
 
For unknown reasons, Calavano lost control of his Harley-Davidson motorcycle on a curve and crashed. He was thrown off his bike and suffered major head trauma. He was wearing a helmet, but fire officials said that it was flimsy and offered little protection.
 
An air ambulance took Calavano to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, where he later died. He was a 74-year-old San Rafael resident, according to the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office.
 
Family members set up a GoFundMe campaign to help cover Calavano’s funeral expenses
 
At this time, an investigation into this crash is underway.
